Objectives: The nuclear and radiology workplace includes rooms and cubicles where many individuals may be working together in close proximity. Students and residents tend to review cases together in close quarters. Not all fragrances are related to perfumes, and can be associated with soap, shampoo, makeup and laundry detergent and cleaning materials used in the department. Even air fresheners or candles can produce an issue. It is very not uncommon for individuals in the workplace to wear various fragrances including colognes, perfumes and oils. A scent that many may find delightful can be offensive to others. Scents may even be associated with allergies and headaches. Issues may also occur when too much cologne is used making it uncomfortable to work.We discuss the various issues associated with fragrance sensitivity. Under certain conditions, specific accomodations may be needed which includes a reduction in exposure to the scent, or even moving a workstation or discussions with specific individuals. Fragrances including colognes and perfumes are very commonly utilized by healthcare workers and patients on a daily basis. There are additional fragrances that are also commonly used including cosmetics, air fresheners, soaps, cleaning products and other toiletries used in the department which can be offensive There are individuals that have a sensitivity to various fragrances where they can be an irritant or even cause allergies. These issues can be present in the radiology department due to an enclosed workplace with many workstations. If such a situation does arise, we discuss a variety of solutions to help deal with specific issues.
