Introduction: 1) To discuss Newton’s Laws of Productivity.2) To apply Newton’s Law of Productivity to the healthcare setting, particularly nuclear medicine.3) Discuss examples of how to apply Newton’s Law of Productivity to the practice of nuclear medicine.
Methods: Health care providers are frequently trying new ways to increase productivity in the workplace. Nuclear Medicine physicians are no different and must innovate in order to maintain efficiency despite working in a fast-paced environment with frequent distractions. Newtons Law of Productivity is a modification of Newton’s Laws of Motion aimed to improve productivity. The aim of the project is to gain an understanding of Newton’s Laws of Productivity as it applies to the health care setting, particularly the nuclear medicine department, in an effort to improve productivity.
Results: The project discusses the concepts of Newton's Laws of Productivity and how it applies to nuclear medicine and radiology. We discuss how procrastination can interfere with daily nuclear medicine activities and discuss how starting a task quickly can increase productivity. We discuss productive forces such as focus and motivation are important and unproductive forces such as stress and too many tasks can interfere with completion of tasks. We also discuss the importance of powering through a task to increase productivity.
Conclusions: Although the application of Newton’s Law of Productivity is a novel concept , it can be applied to the practice of nuclear medicine. Increasing understanding of the concept and its application can have a positive impact on productivity in the nuclear medicine and radiology department.
