Objectives Determining the effectiveness of the use of dual isotope simultaneous imaging for infection imaging.
Methods Using Tc99m MDP and In-111 labeled white blood cells, acquire data simultaneously for each isotope and reconstruct data to display separately and as fused images. By acquiring images at the same time, you should be able to see the same benefits found in other hybrid imaging modalities like PET/CT, PET/MRI, SPECT/CT, and others.
Results Resulting data should support the use of this technique to better differentiate between osteomyelitis and cellutitis or inflammatory processes.
Conclusions Although the test takes longer and is logistically harder to schedule and perform, the results allow the interpreting physician to better distinguish between osteomyelitis and cellutis or an inflammatory process which results in a better outcome for the patient.
