Learning Objectives There are a variety of methods available for residents to learn about nuclear medicine procedures. We show how simple balloon models can be utilized to demonstrate a variety of nuclear medicine studies. They are 3 D models which help in the visualization and understanding. The balloon models can demonstrate the various nuclear medicine procedures, anatomy and various normal appearances as well as diseases and pathology. The balloons can be utilized for physician, student and patient education, and can help in patient understanding to obtain consents for various procedures. In a pictorial poster, we will demonstrate a variety of nuclear medicine procedures.
In a pictorial poster review, we will show how simple balloon models can be utilized to demonstrate a variety of nuclear medicine examinations. The balloons can be utilized and created by residents which enhance learning by active participation. Various procedures will be demonstrated including a direct comparison with actual nuclear medicine images for correlation. We will demonstrate procedures, protocols, as well as normal and abnormal appearances. We will show how they can enhance resident and referrer education, and how they can be used for patient education and help in obtaining patient consents. We will demonstrate a variety of nuclear medicine procedures utilizing simple balloon models, including: -Lymphoscintigraphy for breast and melanoma -Meckel’s Diverticulum study -Cisternogram and VP shunt study -Captropril renal scan -Ioflupane for Evaluation of Parkinsons disease -Nuclear Cardiology Studies -Nuclear VCUG - Various other nuclear procedures.
