Abstract

888

Objectives: Quantitative Gated SPECT (QGS) program automatically calculates left ventricular ejection fraction (EF), end-diastolic and end-systolic volumes (EDV, ESV), regional myocardial wall motion (WM) and thickening (WT) from myocardial perfusion images (MPI). Although the software has been widely validated, normal values derived from QGS were based on western data. We estimated Japanese normal values of QGS, and compared with European population.

Methods: We studied 1627 Japanese patients who underwent stress MPI and coronary angiography (CAG) within a week. To calculate normal values, patient exclusion criteria are decided as follows: History of coronary artery disease, hypertension, diabetes mellitus, idiopathic cardiomyopathy, arhythmia, and valvular disorders. Significant stenosis (> 50%) in CAG. Perfusion abnormalities in stress MPI. Asynergy in ultrasound cardiography. Cardiac volumes and functional parameters are calculated from ECG gated-Tc-99m-MIBI SPECT (16 gates/cardiac cycle) by QGS. Distributions of regional WM and WT were reviewed in 20 segments.

Results: Normal values of QGS were calculated from 72 patients (28 male, 44 female, mean age 64 ± 11 years, range 39-89 years). Japanese normal values (mean ± SD) of cardiac function and volumes are as follows: 74 ± 10 % in EF, 65 ± 24 ml in EDV, 19 ± 12 ml in ESV.

Conclusions: Japanese were smaller in cardiac volumes and higher in EF compared with European population (p< 0.01).
