Inhibition of the Extraneuronal Metabolism of Noradrenaline in the Isolated Heart by Adrenergic Blocking Agents

Abstract

ADRENERGIC blocking agents inhibit the response of effector cells to noradrenaline and related amines1; several of these drugs also act as inhibitors of the uptake of noradrenaline into sympathetic nerves2,3. This communication describes a novel action of adrenergic blocking agents, the ability to inhibit the extraneuronal metabolism of noradrenaline in a peripheral tissue.
