Functional Versus Anatomic Imaging in Patients with Suspected Coronary Artery Disease
2009, Cardiology ClinicsCitation Excerpt :For those using combined CAC and MPI, it is noteworthy that evidence of calcified plaque is not site-specific for obstructive CAD,13 but there is a proportional relationship between CAC extent and inducible ischemia. A statement from the American Society of Nuclear Cardiology synthesizing five reports noted that as the CAC score increased, the frequency of inducible ischemia increased,14 where ischemia occurs in approximately one in every five patients with a CAC score greater than or equal to 400.15 A higher frequency of inducible ischemia is expected in diabetic patients, those with the metabolic syndrome, or with a family history of premature CAD and may occur at a lower threshold CAC score greater than or equal to 100.
Clinical imaging for prevention: Directed strategies for improved detection of presymptomatic patients with undetected atherosclerosis-Part I: Clinical imaging for prevention
2008, Journal of Nuclear CardiologyCitation Excerpt :Given the randomized trial evidence on the intraoperative use of β-blockers and statins, a reappraisal of the “fit” for MPS is indicated. The role of MPS after an initial CAC scan was synthesized in a prior information statement by ASNC.82-84 The clinical message from this statement has not changed since its publication in 2005.
Comparison of gated SPECT with other imaging techniques used in cardiology
2008, Revista Espanola de Cardiologia SuplementosIntegrated Single-Photon Emission Computed Tomography and Computed Tomography Coronary Angiography for the Assessment of Hemodynamically Significant Coronary Artery Lesions
2007, Journal of the American College of CardiologyCitation Excerpt :The PPV of CTCA is at present suboptimal. At present, the main clinical advantage of CTCA seems to be related to its high NPV, which allows for the exclusion of obstructive CAD (4,24). Computed tomography coronary angiography detects the presence of multiple coronary lesions, but the hemodynamic consequences of these abnormalities, which are important for adequate therapeutic decisions, might be equivocal.
