2018, NeuropsychologiaCitation Excerpt :In the schizophrenia domain, studies exploring the impact of striatal dopamine D2-like receptions on apathy and also negative symptoms, in general, are contradictory. Some findings point to a negative impact of neuroleptic-induced dopamine D2/D 3 blockade on negative symptoms and apathy (Heinz et al., 1998; de Haan et al., 2000), while another point to the other direction (Fervaha et al., 2016; de Haan et al., 2003). Overall, previous evidence suggests that dopamine plays a role in negative symptoms and apathy.

2018, NeuropsychologiaCitation Excerpt :The novel finding is that in the present case we further show that severity of negative symptoms correlates with magnitude of the delay when the right hand moves from the right starting point. Both negative symptoms and psychomotor slowing in schizophrenia have been attributed to a dysfunction of dopaminergic neurotransmission (Heinz et al., 1998), confirming the possibility that anomalies in dopamine-related hemispheric asymmetries exist in these patients (Downing et al., 1998a). Except for being slower, movement times of SCZ patients essentially followed the pattern observed in controls.
