A previous study has shown that apoptosis is the early and predominant form of cardiomyocyte death which preferres to locate at borders of the infarcted site [136]. Cleaved caspase-3 p17 peptide, the end effector caspase for apoptosis, is increased in STEMI (ST-segment elevation myocardial infarction) patients [137].
