2023, Seminars in Nuclear MedicineCitation Excerpt :Whole body FDG PET may be a useful tool in the assessment of the ‘long COVID’ post-inflammatory processes involving multiple organs, including the brain, lung, skeletal muscle and vessel walls, especially as the natural history and long-term sequalae of COVID-19 are currently being investigated. SPECT using radiolabelled technetium 99m (Tc99m) plays an important role in molecular imaging, including for pulmonary embolism (PE) evaluation and assessing cardiac abnormalities in certain patients.23-25 During the global SARS-CoV-2 pandemic, emergent changes to workflow impacted how SPECT was utilized in nuclear medicine departments worldwide.
