PET Imaging of Pheochromocytoma
2007, PET ClinicsCitation Excerpt :As many as 20% of PCs are extra-adrenal in location59 and tend to be malignant and frequently multicentric. The affinity of these extra-adrenal PCs to MIBG is lower when compared with adrenal PCs, and several authors have demonstrated that imaging with somatostatin analogs such as 111In octreotide is more sensitive in the detection of malignant rather than benign PCs.21,59–62 Further studies analyzing 123I-MIBG–negative metastatic lesions have noted that imaging with somatostatin analogs is complementary to that of 123I-MIBG scanning.63–66
