2021, British Journal of Oral and Maxillofacial SurgeryCitation Excerpt :Radiotherapy should be used routinely,19 and wide field adjuvant radiotherapy to encompass the primary site, in-transit tissue, and first echelon lymph nodes after surgery, is recommended.20 Adjuvant radiotherapy achieves superior local control compared with surgery alone.21 A large retrospective analysis of 1187 cases from the SEER database demonstrated longer overall survival in patients who received adjuvant radiotherapy after surgery compared with those who did not (median survival 63 months vs 45 months, p = 0.0002).22
