2023, Nuclear Medicine and BiologyCitation Excerpt :mGluR5 is involved in the stimulation of phospholipase C and generates Ca2+ signaling inside the cells [6]. The highest expression of mGluR5 in the central nervous system (CNS) can be found in the striatum, hippocampus, amygdala, and cortex [7–9] and only a small amount is expressed in cerebellum [10,11]. It has been suggested that mGluR5 is a potential therapeutic target for a number of CNS disorders [12], such as Parkinson's disease [13,14], Alzheimer's disease [15], mood disorders [16–19], addiction [20], schizophrenia [21–23], and autism [24].
