Effect of prednisolone pre-treatment on cat lymphoma cell sensitivity towards chemotherapeutic drugs
2021, Research in Veterinary ScienceCitation Excerpt :However, it is of vast importance for the clinical decision making to answer the question whether or not glucocorticoid pre-treatment significantly influences the effectiveness of chemotherapy in feline tumor patients. Among the aspects influencing the therapeutic outcome, drug resistance (both intrinsic and acquired) is a common phenomenon and the most common cause of treatment failure (van Kalken et al., 1991). Overexpression of ATP binding cassette transporters (ABC superfamily proteins), which efflux a wide spectrum of anticancer drugs against their concentration gradient using ATP-driven energy, is the most important mechanism of multidrug resistance (Bergman, 2002; Sodani et al., 2012).
