Cardiomyocytes-specific deletion of monoamine oxidase B reduces irreversible myocardial ischemia/reperfusion injury
2021, Free Radical Biology and MedicineCitation Excerpt :MAOs catalyze the oxidative deamination of neurotransmitters and biogenic amines thereby mediating the transfer of electrons from nitrogen groups to oxygen, which leads to the formation of hydrogen peroxide (H2O2) in the mitochondrial matrix and the cytosol [11,12]. There are two isoforms, MAO-A and MAO-B, which are highly expressed in the liver, stomach, kidney and the heart [13,14]. MAO-B which is expressed in the myocardium of mice and humans [15,16] differs from MAO-A with respect to substrate specificity and inhibitor sensitivity.
PET Imaging of Neuroinflammation
2021, Molecular Imaging: Principles and PracticeSynthesis and preclinical evaluation of [18F]FSL25.1188, a reversible PET radioligand for monoamine oxidase-B
2019, Bioorganic and Medicinal Chemistry LettersCitation Excerpt :Monoamine oxidase (MAO) is a membrane-bound flavoenzyme.1 The primary substrates of MAOs in the human brain are neurotransmitters such as: serotonin, norepinephrine, and dopamine.2 Two isozymes of MAO have been identified, namely, MAO-A and MAO-B, wherein the latter is predominantly found in human brain cells and is primarily expressed in the basal ganglia.3
