In blood, TSPO is expressed in several cell types, including monocytes, polymorphonuclear neutrophils, and platelets (Canat et al., 1993). The radioligand concentration in blood may therefore depend on peripheral immunoactivation, and thus may vary across diagnostic groups, or even across healthy individuals.
