  • This patient had normal serum Ca-ion (1.24 mmol/L; reference, 1.16–1.30 mmol/L) on first postoperative day but not 50% decrease in her PTH concentration (preoperative PTH, 101 ng/L; and postoperative, 81 ng/L; reference, 8–73 ng/L). She was considered cured because histology confirmed hyperplasia and she no longer fulfills criteria for reoperation.

  • This patient was cured after operation as evidenced by normal biochemical findings on first postoperative day (serum Ca-ion, 1.19 mmol/L; reference, 1.16–1.30 mmol/L; and PTH, 11 ng/L, compared with 85 ng/L preoperatively; reference, 8–73 ng/L), although histology did not demonstrate parathyroid tissue.
