Methods. Twenty-four untreated patients with pathologically confirmed POEMS syndrome were included in the study. All patients underwent CT examination, 18 patients underwent X-ray examination in different parts, and twelve of them underwent 99mTc-MDP SPECT scan. Features of bone lesions in X-ray, CTand 99mTc-MDP SPECT were analyzed. Three experienced radiologists read the images and gave diagnosed results for bone lesions.Results. Of the 24 POEMS syndrome patients, three typesof the bone lesions were found, osteosclerotic lesions, osteolytic lesions, and the mixed lesions,of which the most commonly type was osteosclerotic. Eight patients from 18 participantswere detected bone lesions with X-ray, fifteen patients(62.5%) underwent the CT were found bone lesions existing, and 75% of 12 patients were inspected bone lesions by SPECT. 6 patients underwent the 99mTc-MDP SPECT, chest CT and abdominal CT in the meantime. The location and number of the bone features from the supraclavicularto the anterior superior spine were analysed, found that 3 arealike in SPECT and CT, 2 are CT more than SPECT, 1 are SPECT more than CT. We compared the difference of the X-ray, CT and SPECT in the bone lesions by chi-square, we found that there wasno difference(P=0.989) in detecting bone lesions between the three methods. Besides the bone lesions, CT imagesalso provided the organomegaly and extravascularvolume overload features. Conclusions. X-ray, CT and 99mTc-MDP SPECT allplay vital role inevaluating patients withsuspected POEMS syndrome. They can complement each other mainly in the confirmation of one minor diagnostic criteria for POEMS syndrome, bone lesions.
