Methods In this presentation, we will describe pathophysiologic basis and rational and specific techniques utilized for parathyroid scintigraphy. We will demonstrate based on illustrative examples how parathyroid scintigraphy is performed today and look into modified techniques, which may become standard of care in the future. To that end, we will inform the attendees about commonly used variations in radiotracer dosing, uptake time, image acquisition parameters and image reconstruction techniques, and the effects that these have on the imaging findings. Finally, we will demonstrate common false positive and false negative findings on parathyroid scintigraphy and their causes. Results We will exemplify these aspects of parathyroid scintigraphy based on illustrative examples from our busy clinical practice. Conclusions Parathyroid scintigraphy is routinely used in clinical patient care. And yet, there is a wide range of recommendations regarding images acquisition and reconstruction. This educational exhibit will help to apply these recommendations more appropriately and tailor them to clinical scenarios at hand.
