However, MR only breast coil is positioned in the field of view of PET detector and potentially attenuate PET signal. Recently, PET/MR breast coil has been commercially available on integrated PET/MR system. We evaluated quantitative PET data of PET/MR scans with different coils (flexible body surface PET/MR coil (coil 1), MR only breast coil (coil 2), dedicated PET/MR breast coil (coil 3)) in breast cancer patients.Methods Thirty women (50.9±8.0 years old) diagnosed with breast cancer underwent 3 sequential PET/MR examination using 3 different coils. Initially, supine whole-body PET/MR scan was performed using coil 1 at 78±16 min after FDG injection (235±34 MBq). And then PET/MR breast imaging was performed using coil 2 and coil 3 at 108±17 min and 136±17 min after injection in prone position. SUVmax was compared on each scan. To analyze factors affecting attenuation correction, we calculated the percentage change in SUVmax between images using coil 2 and coil 3 ( Δ SUVmax%), and compared with the distance from chest wall to SUVmax point and pathologic tumor size.Results The mean value of SUVmax were 3.9±2.3 (coil 1), 3.1±2.0 (coil 2) and 5.1±3.5 (coil 3), respectively. SUVmax of coil 1 and SUVmax of coil 3 were highly correlated (ρ=0.968, p<0.001). Although SUVmax of coil 2 showed lower than SUVmax of coil 3, SUVmax of coli 2 and SUVmax of coil 3 were also correlated (ρ=0.933, p<0.001). A tumor close to chest wall showed lower Δ SUVmax% (p<0.001).Conclusions Despite photon attenuation effect, MR only coil correlated well with flexible body surface PET/MR coil and might be considered feasible in simultaneous PET/MR breast imaging. But, PET/MR breast coil and flexible body surface PET/MR coil were highly correlated. Thus integrated PET/MR breast imaging with PET/MR breast coil would be more useful for quantification of PET data and anatomical information in breast cancer patients. ER -
