AB 1358 Objectives Staging of Multiple Myeloma(MM) is of great importance for clinical management. Durie/Salmon plus staging system which utilizes 18F-FDG PET/CT or MRI to stage MM has been introduced since 2006.Our objective is to investigate the clinical value of 18F-FDG PET/CT in staging and analyze the glucose metabolic activity of lesions of Multiple Myeloma(MM).Methods Nineteen patients with newly diagnosed MM underwent 18F-FDG PET/CT from May 2010 to Oct 2014 were enrolled in this study. The maximum standardized uptake value (SUVmax) of each patient reflecting the metabolic activity was recorded. The results of Durie/Salmon plus staging system and Durie/Salmon system were compared. The relationship between the SUVmax and the percentage of plasmacytes of bone marrow between phaseⅢ and other phases(phaseⅠandⅡ)according to Durie/Salmon plus staging and Durie/Salmon staging system were analyzed. Results Pathology types of MM were IgG(n=11)、light-chain(n=5, 4λ and1κ)、IgM(n=1) and IgA(n=2).Bone involvement patterns of MM were diffused、focal and multiple. According to Durie/Salmon plus staging system and Durie/Salmon staging system, the number of phaseⅢ、Ⅱ、Ⅰwere 11、1、7 and 5、4、10,respectively. Eight patients (42.1%, 8/19) were staged differently based on Durie/Salmon plus staging system. According to the Durie/Salmon plus staging system, the SUVmax of patients and percentage of plasmacytes of bone marrow between phaseⅢ and other phases was 6.76±2.58 vs 4.20±2.23(P=0.03)、29.19%±30.65% vs 12.50%±13.62%(P=0.19), respectively. While according to Durie/Salmon staging system, the SUVmax of patients and percentage of plasmacytes of bone marrow between phaseⅢ and other phases was 5.90±2.00 vs 5.44±3.45(P=0.72)、23.31%±33.40% vs 18.38%±12.44%(P=0.71),respectively.Conclusions According to the preliminary data, 18F-FDG PET/CT is of great clinical importance for MM staging.42.10% of patients would have been staged differently with Durie/Salmon plus staging system. The SUVmax of lesions is associated with the Durie/Salmon plus staging system.
