Methods Planar scintigraphy and thorax CT were performed within 14 days in 171 patients with biopcy comfirmed NSCLC. According to CT features the lesions are classified in 4 types: osteoblastic, osteolytic, mixed and no CT abnormality. With different types of bone metastasis, the positive rates of bone scan were calculated. Also, the changes of manifestation on CT before and after the treatment were analyzed. Results Within the field of thorax, 135 patients with 511 lesions were confirmed bone metastasis by above-mentioned methods, bone scan detected 446 lesions and CT detected 386 lesions. CT excluded 73 lesions, which were false-positive on bone scan and comfirmed 63 ambiguous lesions. The positive rates of bone scan on osteoblastic and mixed lesions are 87.9% and 96.2%, which is no significant difference. But both of them are statistically higher than that of osteolytic lesions, which is 61.17%. By divided all the patients into 2 groups, we discovered that patients who had effective treatment clinically have more osteoblastic lesions compared with lesions before treatment(P<0.05), and the other types of lesions decrease correspondingly. Conclusions The positive rates of osteoblatic and mixed lesions on bone scan are higher than that of osteolytic ones. There are more osteoblastic lesions after effective treatment, which indicates that the changing to osteoblastic lesion can be used as an indicator for effective treatmentChi-Square of osteoblastic and osteolytic lesions=29.4783,P<0.0001 Chi-Square of osteoblastic and mixed lesions=3.1840,P=0.0744 Chi-Square of osteolytic and mixed lesions=21.1857,P<0.0001 ER -
