Methods 34 male patients with GD, aging between 21-40 (32.3 ± 6.7) years old, were treated with 131I. The average dosage of 131I was 237.8±51.8MBq. The serum sex hormones were detected and questionnaire score of erectile function (IIEF-5) was conducted respectively at 1month, 3months, 6 months after 131I therapy in male patients with GD. 15 cases of healthy men were chosen as control group. Results As to the male patients with GD, the level for estrogen(E2), testosterone(T), luteinizing hormone(LH), follicle-stimulating(FSH), progesterone(PROG), and prolactin(PRL) were respectively 132.5±40.4, 11.6±4.6, 10.1±4.4, 140.5 ± 57.4, 0.9 ± 0.3, 131.3 ± 67.4. The level of E2, T, and LH were significantly higher than those in control group ( 80.4±31.2, 6.7± 2.1, 6.2 ±1.9, P <0.05). There was no difference for the level of sex hormones 1month after 131I therapy compared to the male patients with GD. After 3 months treatment, the level of E2(110.2±20.6) and T(8.7±2.2) were lowered compared to the patients with GD (P <0.05). After 6 months treatment, the level of E2, T and LH were 82.6±30.1,6.9±2.4,6.6±1.5, having no difference compared with healthy controls (P> 0.05). The IIEF-5 score for male patients with GD was 15.5 ± 3.1, which was significantly lower than that in the healthy controls (24.1 ± 0.8, P <0.05). The score for 1 month, 3 months, 6 months after treatment were separately 15.2 ± 4.6, 19.5 ±1.1, as well as 23.1 ±1.9. The score for 6- month group was significantly higher than that for 1-month and 3-month group (P<0.05). There was no significant difference for the patient group after 6 months treatment compared with the healthy controls(P> 0.05). Conclusions To male patients with GD, the level for E2, T, and LH were higher and IIEF-5 scores were reduced significantly. By means of 131I therapy for 6 months, the level for E2, T and LH returned to the normal state and IIEF-5 scores were significantly improved
