Methods Quantitative SPECT studies were acquired on a Philips SKYLight camera with in-line spiral CT (Picker PQ5000). Subjects having planar Tc99m-labelled RBC GHPS scans for evaluation of LV ejection fraction underwent an additional SPECT/CT scan. A venous blood sample was obtained to determine radionuclide concentration in whole blood using a gamma counter. Attenuation (AC) and scatter correction (SC)were performed based on the CT data during OSEM image reconstruction using previously published methods (Willowson et al, Phys Med Biol 53:3099-3012, 2008). The concentration in the LV blood pool at end diastole was then compared with the blood sample as a gold standard. Results The results in 10 subjects scanned to date are shown in the table. The mean difference between true and reconstructed concentration was +1.7%±3.8%. Conclusions This study demonstrates that quantitative SPECT with CT-derived AC and SC yields accurate and precise reconstructed images. While LV radioactivity concentration is of limited diagnostic importance, the study shows the potential for quantitative cardiac scanning which could be of great value in myocardial perfusion imaging ER -
