The normal ERPF values in healthy subjects have been standardized using gamma camera . The aim was to estimate ERPF from single plasma sample in renal studies using 99mTc-EC and compare the same with the ERPF calculated using the gamma camera. Methods 47 subjects (32 men, 15 women) with varying degrees of renal function in age range, 16 – 65 years were included . Renal scintigraphy was performed in all subjects using gamma camera and ERPF values calculated using Schlegel method. ERPF values using single plasma sample were estimated as reported by Levent Kabasakal. ERPF ,thus calculated were compared and correlation coefficient (r) between plasma clearance and gamma camera values was calculated using standard statistical methods. Results The range of ERPF values using gamma camera in our subjects was 119 ml/min to 588 ml/min with a mean of 368.36 ± 128.84 ml/min. The range of ERPF values measured with single sample method was 119 ml/min to 544 ml/min with a mean of 373.74 ± 129.25 ml/min. The correlation coefficient (r) for the gamma camera technique versus the plasma method was 0.93. Conclusions Comparison of results shows excellent correlation between plasma sample and gamma camera techniques. Both methods can be individually used for estimating ERPF values in clinical practice with accuracy within acceptable limit.
