There are many additional laws and regulations which can affect a nuclear medicine practice that are in addition to the laws addressing radiation safety. The Stark Law, the Health Care Quality and Improvement Act (HCQIA), the Anti-Kickback act, the Patient Safety and Quality Improvement Act (PSQIA), Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPPA), the Health Information Technology for Economic and Clinical Health (HITECH), and the False Claims act will be presented with their unique application to Nuclear Medicine. Methods: We conducted a literature review of the rules and regulations that apply to a Nuclear medicine, beyond the radiation safety rules Results: There are numerous rules and regulation that must be followed in order to provide the highest level of patient care that extend well past those well established for radiation safety. Conclusion: A thorough understanding of the rules and regulations that provide a framework for nuclear medicine activities can help deliver effective and safe patient care. ER -
