Nineteen patients in HT group were pathologically diagnosed as DTC combined with HT. Among them, there were 3 males and 16 females, with an average age of 35.95±14.17 years. The first 131I treatment dose was 172.63±22.57mCi, 4.89±1.05 months after the first 131I course. In the DTC group, 27 patients were pathologically diagnosed as DTC, including 7 males and 20 females, with an average age of 35.78±13.74 years old. The 131I dose of first course was 167.78±34.79mCi, and 4.85±1.03 months after the first course. All patients underwent salivary gland imaging before and after the first 131I treatment. Semi-quantitative parameters of salivary gland imaging were selected: maximum absorption ratio (MAR) was used to reflect the uptake function of salivary glands;Maximum secretion ratio (MSR) reflects the excretory function of salivary glands. The injury of salivary gland function was marked by the decrease of MAR and MSR.Paired t test was used to compare the difference of salivary gland function in HT and DTC groups before and after 131I treatment. The differences and similarities of salivary gland function between HT group and DTC group were compared by independent sample t-test.Results: Before 131I treatment, MAR, MSR of parotid gland and submandibular gland in HT group were 0.89±0.09, 0.45±0.31 and 0.54±0.17, 0.37±0.18, respectively. After 131I treatment, MAR and MSR of parotid and submandibular glands in HT group were 0.83±0.27, 0.47±0.33 and 0.59±0.18, 0.40±0.17, respectively. Before 131I treatment, MAR, MSR of parotid gland and submandibular gland in DTC group were 0.84±0.13, 0.50±0.30 and 0.56±0.16, 0.34±0.19, respectively. After 131I treatment, MAR and MSR of parotid gland and submandibular gland in DTC group were 0.86±0.14, 0.36±0.34 and 0.57±0.15, 0.32±0.21, respectively. Comparison of salivary gland function before and after 131I treatment Results: MAR and MSR of parotid gland and submandibular gland were not different in HT group before and after 131I treatment. However, there were significant differences in parotid MSR before and after 131I treatment in DTC group (P<0.05).Comparison between HT group and DTC group before 131I treatment: MAR value of parotid gland in HT group was significantly higher than that in DTC group (P<0.05).Comparison of HT group and DTC group after 131I treatment: MAR and MSR of parotid gland and submandibular gland in HT group and DTC group showed no statistical significance. Conclusion: The salivary gland function of HT patients with DTC was not significantly affected in 4 to 6 months after initial 131I treatment, and the effect of HT on salivary glands should not be considered in the adjustment of 131I dose during initial 131I treatment.
