Objectives: To investigate the imaging characteristics of subacute thyroiditis (SAT) features on [18F] FDG PETCT,and discuss the value of staging diagnosis.
Methods: From March 2015 to September 2017 , it was retrospectively studied that 22 patients (3 male, 19 female, and average age (41.2 ±10.4) years) underwent cervical local [18F] FDG PETCT who initially presented to our nuclear medicine department and diagnosed as SAT. To follow up and investigate the imaging features and quantitative analysis (SUVmax) of [18F] FDG PETCT in three different stages of subacute thyroiditis. The mean ±standard deviation and random group variance analysis(the F test) were used to analyze the data . Results In 22 cases of SAT, the proportion of involvement of the thyroid gland in two lobes, a single lobe and part of a lobe were 14/22, 6/22, 2/22, respectively. The metabolism of lesions was decreased with the staging. The SUVmax value were 6.87±0.91,3.52±0.68,1.68±0.53 in the acute stage, medium stage, and recovery stage ,respectively, there were statistically significant differences between the groups (P<0.01). The diffuse or focal irregular low density gradually restored to normal density which was the morphological changes of CT. Conclusion [18F] FDG is a good imaging agent for inflammation. [18F] FDG PETCT can directly reflect the location and range of the involvement in the progression of SAT,and quantitatively, dynamically observe the progression of the disease, affecting therapeutic decision. It also plays a role in differiential diagnosis. Key words:Thyroiditis,Subacute;Tomography, emission computed;Tomography, X-ray computed;Deoxyglucose
