Objectives The objectives of this exhibit is to introduce pitfalls of 11C-Methionine(Met) PET/CT imaging in patients with intracranial lesions.
Methods I describe characteristics of the 11-C Met imaging in various diseases and physiological uptake, which caused false positive and negative, such as anatomical variation; vascular disorders; inflammation or dysplasia; and benign brain tumors.
Results Many diseases and factors of 11C-Met PET/CT can potentially affect image interpretation and cause false positives and negatives because 11C-Met PET uptake reflects the expression of amino acid receptors, cells with high avidity for amino acids, and the amount of blood vessels.
Conclusions Familiarity with the pitfalls of 11C-Met images could help prevent unfavorable clinical results caused by misdiagnoses. RESEARCH SUPPORT: None
