Objectives To assess the accuracy of end-diastolic volume (EDV), end-systolic volume (ESV) and ejection fraction (EF) measurements from gated myocardial perfusion SPECT on the new CZT cardiac camera GE D530 (CZT) using QGS® (Cedar Sinai) software on a calibrated dynamic cardiac phantom.
Methods three different combinations of end-systolic volume (ESV) and end-diastolic volume (EDV) with corresponding EF (58%, 44%, and 37%) were programmed on the Amsterdam gated cardiac phantom (AGATE). Five consecutive gated myocardial perfusion SPECT were performed on CZT and on a standard cardiac camera Sopha DST (DST) for each filling condition. EF, EDV and ESV were automatically calculated using QGS software. The results were compared to those previously published by Verberne (Verberne and al., JCN 2006) using the same cardiac phantom and filling conditions.
Results EF was underestimated by 3% on CZT and overestimated by 8% on DST. Both ESV and EDV were underestimated by DST and the extent of underestimation was consistent with previously published results. Both calculated ESV and EDV for the CZT camera were closer to the identity line compared to NaI cameras with an extent of underestimation by 5ml (for 50ml) to 34ml (at 190ml).
Conclusions EDV and ESF are less underestimated with CZT camera compared to standard cameras, resulting in a calculated LVEF close to the identity line
