Learning Objectives 1. To explain the purpose of the Ommaya reservoir. 2. To show examples of normal and abnormal CSF flow on the Ommayagram.
Cancer relapse is presenting as leptomeningeal or parenchymal metastasis, which is increasing, particularly for patients with breast and lung cancer. This must be treated intrathecally via the Ommaya reservoir. To be certain that there is free CSF flow, In-111 DTPA is placed in the CSF and images are obtained to observe for areas of blockage. The areas of blockage must be treated prior to intrathecal treatment for effective and optimal therapy. Although, the Ommayagram is an infrequently performed study, it serves a great benefit in our experience
