Because of the limitations of CT and MRI in distinguishing between benign and malignant intracerebral ring-enhancing lesions, ¹⁸F-FET PET is under investigation as an alternative. Although the method is useful in showing tumor extent and in differentiating recurrence from other changes, high uptake may occur in brain abscesses and, as illustrated here, in acute inflammatory demyelination. Biopsy remains necessary for a definite diagnosis in such cases.
