Coronal PET/CT images (top) of a woman with recently diagnosed small cell cancer show a large ¹⁸F-FDG-avid mass in the right lung, consistent with the known cancer. Anterior slices from the same study (bottom) show an ¹⁸F-FDG-avid nodule in the left breast, highly suggestive of malignancy. Pathologic examination revealed infiltrating ductal carcinoma. Thus, the study was true positive for an additional primary malignancy.
