ABSTRACT
With bremsstrahlung (gamma photon) activation, trace quantities of 127I at the levels encountered in human serum can be measured. Using the (
, n) reaction it is not necessary to remove the Na+ from the system, as it is in neutron activation analysis. In addition, there is no significant intereference from other elements, such as mercury, which are also activated. This technique of measuring trace quantitites of 127I may be further developed for biological and medical applications not now possible with available classical techniques.
