Design and Construction of An Inexpensive Beta-Gamma Floor Monitor1

Stacy C. Swanberg, B.Sc.2

Omaha, Nebraska

ABSTRACT

The instrument described has been in continuous use at this institution for the past two years and has done a great deal to provide continuous protection against the inadvertent spread of radioactive materials. In the case of known spills, it has been very useful in quickly delineating the extent of the spread of contamination and the progress of subsequent decontamination operations. Total cost of the floor monitor, exclusive of the GM Survey Meter, is less than $100.00.
