ABSTRACT
Preoperative radionuclide imaging of parathyroid glands has been attempted using various nuclides with varying degrees of success. We present a case report of preoperative location of a mediastinal parathyroid adenoma with pertechnetate (Tc-99m) imaging. The literature on parathyroid imaging with technetium is reviewed. We conclude that pertechnetate may have been overlooked as a useful imaging agent for parathyroid adenomas, especially for tumors located away from the thyroid, and that further investigation is warranted.
