ABSTRACT
Sequential scintiphotography after i.v. injection of pertechnetate was used to evaluate patients under strong suspicion of pericardial effusion. The scintiphotos of 20 cases were analyzed. Results indicate that the sequential study reveals a diffusion pattern pertinent to differentiating pericardial transudates from pericardial exudates. This simple and innocuous technique may provide useful information for alerting the physician to the possible type of disease present, thereby assisting therapy.
