ABSTRACT
A 47-year-old male with the diagnosis of subacute bacterial endocarditis developed sudden left upper quadrant pain while on treatment with antibiotics. Using 99mTc-sulfur colloid, a spleen and liver scan revealed an area of decreased uptake in the spleen which resolved 5 months later. These findings were consistent with the diagnosis of a splenic infarct. Photoscanning of the liver and spleen is a simple and available technique which should be used when lesions of the spleen are suspected.
