Relative Function of the "Hot" Autonomous Thyroid Nodule: Double and Single Isotope Autoradiographic Studies

ABSTRACT

Double and single isotope autoradiography makes possible the demonstration of the activity of nodules with autonomous function relative to that of normal thyroid. The degree of function per unit volume of these lesions may be greater or less than nonsuppressed normal follicles, and the key descriptive adjectives should therefore be "autonomous" and "functioning" rather than hyperfunctioning.
