A high-sensitivity thermistor was installed at the inlet of a conventional disposable oxygen face mask. This thermistor was connected to a simple circuit equipped with a discriminator and a variable-resistance dial, powered by 5 V with AA batteries. The output of this circuit was fed to the 5-V input of the PET scanner.
